1 GENERAL

Guidelines have been developed to provide assistance in the application of Data Management and support .

In addition to these guidelines the Data Manager - Road and Traffic Engineering can provide technical advice on the following topics.


1.1 Digital Data Formats

Digital data can come in various software and application formats and not all formats are compatible with Main Roads systems. Conversely Main Roads data may not be compatible with those used by external parties.

1.2 Application and Uses of Digital Data

Digital Information can be captured by various methods which produce varying data accuracy depending on the capture method. Often digital data is supplied with poor Metadata so where digital data already exists, care should be taken when using the data, because due to its accuracy, the information may not be suitable for the purpose that it is to be used for.

For advice on wether existing data meets you requirements contact the Data Manager.

1.3 Volumes

Advice and support is available for road construction volume calculations. This covers how to undertake the computations and the methodology to be used.

 

1.4 File Management

For any queries on how to undertake the management of digital data including the storage, security, packaging and handling.

 

1.5 Software

Any queries on the use of the various software that uses digital data contact the Data Manager. The software packages include

- SMIGS
- MX Moss
- Autocad
- Microstation
- ArcInfo
- Arcview
