Hester Avenue traffic was recently relocated onto the newly constructed bridge, marking a major milestone for the milestone for the project.
The bridge forms part of the new Mitchell Freeway and Hester Avenue interchange and is the first of the project's three bridges to carry traffic.
Relocating traffic onto the new bridge has opened up new work areas on Hester Avenue to progress construction.
Construction of the bridge's on and off-ramps are well underway and are expected to be complete by mid-2017 along with the freeway.
At project completion, the interchange will provide the local community with improved connectivity, allowing direct access to and from the freeway.
Changed traffic conditions will be in place through the project area until mid-2017, including speed restrictions and lane closures. Signage will be in place through the works and we ask road users to follow all traffic management on site.

We are committed to delivering the project with respect for the community and environment.CommunitySince 2013, we have worked with the community to develop the project design through a Community Reference Group (for copies of previous meeting minutes please contact the Project Team). This group has reformed as a Construction Reference Group (CRG) and will meet regularly during the delivery of the project. The 25 member group consists of a range of representatives including local residents and businesses, community and environment groups and local government.EnvironmentWe are mindful of minimising the impact to the environment at every stage of construction. The team is implementing a range of proactive, environmentally friendly and sustainable initiatives throughout the delivery of the project. For example before removing vegetation fauna is trapped and relocated and seed is collected for re-vegetation, as well as retaining topsoil and mulching cleared vegetation for re-use.
