Perth Stadium - Victoria Park Drive Modifications

Project Overview

Lend Lease Engineering has now completed work to expand the existing road and bridge network on Victoria Park Drive in Burswood to accommodate the expanded rail infrastructure to service the Perth Stadium and Sport Precinct.

The works included:

  • Installing additional bridge spans on the rail bridge adjacent to Graham Farmer Freeway
  • Altering the existing footbridge to accommodate the railway line upgrade
  • Constructing a new pedestrian underpass under Victoria Park Drive to link to the new railway station
  • Demolishing the old Belmont Park Station

Current Status

Perth Stadium has project-wide traffic management in place to manage the interface between general road users and construction traffic on Victoria Park Drive.

Lane closures and changing traffic conditions may be experienced on Victoria Park Drive as part of the ongoing works. Road users should obey all signs and signals while moving through the area and are requested to plan their journey in advance and avoid Victoria Park Drive, if possible.

The three year construction program for the Stadium is on schedule for completion by the start of the 2018 AFL season.

Project Purpose

Victoria Park Drive and the adjacent rail, pedestrian and bridge infrastructure was modified to accommodate the expanded rail infrastructure to service the Perth Stadium. The road and bridge expansion enables new railway lines to be installed on the Armadale-Perth line to service the Stadium Station and create an underpass to separate vehicles and pedestrians trying to access one of the station forecourts.
