Perth Stadium - Swan River Pedestrian Bridge

Latest News

Concrete works are progressing on the bridge piers within Swan River. The piers form the structure support for the bridge.

Operational planning is also underway for closures affecting the Swan River in 2017. Further information will be published here as it becomes available.

The recent relocation of site offices, from Burswood to East Perth, has allowed for the completion of the final alignment of Principal Shared Path (PSP) between Crown Towers and the new Perth Stadium at Burswood.

The Swan River pedestrian bridge will connect people moving between East Perth, Burswood Peninsula and Perth Stadium. The bridge will start in East Perth at Nelson Avenue, south of Nile Street, and includes a special event bus stand to move patrons away from residential streets and connect them to the Perth CBD and car park facilities.

The bridge is a key component of Perth Stadium transport plan and will provide patron connectivity between Perth's CBD, East Perth and the Stadium. Further information is available from Perth Stadium website.

Bridge Quick Facts:
  • The bridge will be 65 metres tall at its highest point and stretches 370 metres from bank to bank, with a steel cable-stay span of 160 metres at its centre.
  • Only two piers will be driven into the river bed to respect the area’s heritage and minimize the impact on the river.
  • It will be at least nine metres wide, wider at pause points and includes some shelter.
  • It will use 1650 tonnes of steel and 1.5 km’s of steel cables and strip lighting.
  • The bridge skin is made of Teflon coated fiberglass.

Swan River Pedestrian Bridge will:

  • Be a key element of the integrated transport management solution to move people to and from the Perth Stadium when it is completed in 2018, along with the buses and trains.
  • Offer a new connection from East Perth to the transformed Burswood Peninsula and Stadium.
  • Provide year-round access for local residents and the community to playgrounds, picnic and barbeque areas plus a network of walking and cycling tracks.
