​Overview

The Square Kilometre Array Access Roads (SKAAR) project will upgrade roads between Mullewa and the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project site near Boolardy Station.

Latest news

The Stage 1 Contract will go to tender in the last quarter of 2017. The following work is currently in progress:

  • Surveying
  • Design of key infrastructure
  • Material investigations to locate suitable road building materials

Information sessions were held in March and April 2017 to advise local businesses and people of the upcoming works and opportunities presented by the SKAAR Project.

 

Scope of works

  • Upgrades to major floodways
  • Review of signage
  • Upgrades to narrow cattle grids
  • Resheeting sections of unsealed roads
  • Short road realignment.

 

Key benefits

  • Improved access to the project site during construction and operation
  • Improved access for other road users.

 

Timelines

The SKAAR project will be delivered in two stages:

  • Stage 1 will take approximately one year to complete and will include the upgrade of various sections along the route.
  • Stage 2 will include maintenance works for approximately four to five years during construction of the SKA.
