SRG Civil undertook refurbishment took a refurbishment of the aging Newcastle Road Bridge (Avon Bridge), at a cost of $4.4 million. The Bridge was officially opened on 4 August 2017.

The project was a complete refurbishment of the bridge including:

  • widening the traffic lanes
  • a new footpath
  • upgrading the guardrail
  • replacing the bridge deck
  • and strengthening the bridge which will include driving additional piles.

 

Background

The Newcastle Road Bridge (Avon Bridge) is located over the Avon River in Northam and required structural repair works to increase safety and longevity of the bridge structure. Improvements were also made for access and safety of pedestrians with a wider footpath and guardrail upgrade.

The bridge formed part of Great Eastern Highway until the Northam Bypass was constructed.

An average of 5,600 vehicles per day use this section of Newcastle Road.
