Great Eastern Highway Passing Lanes - Southern Cross to Kalgoorlie

On 23 May 2017 the State Government announced the completion of 15 new passing lanes on Great Eastern Highway, in the Goldfields to provide safer overtaking opportunities and improve transport efficiency. Distributed over 225 km section of the highway between Southern Cross and Kalgoorlie, there are eight new eastbound lanes and seven westbound, each with an average length of 3 km. At each location, the highway has been widened to provide three 3.5 m lanes (including the passing lane), as well as a 1 m sealed shoulder and 1 m unsealed shoulder. Audible edge lines and safety barriers have been included where necessary.

In June 2017, WBHO Infrastructure Pty Ltd also completed a further 6.72 km of additional highway overlay and widening works approximately 30 km east of Boorabbin.

The project compliments the upgrade of Great Eastern Highway - Bullabulling to Coolgardie which was completed in 2015 and included three new passing lanes.
