In April 2016, we identified an opportunity to provide an additional lane on Mitchell Freeway southbound from Charles Street to Market Street to improve traffic flow.
The works included removing the merge point from where Mitchell Freeway meets Charles Street, and reducing the bottleneck that was being experienced in this area. The project has shown improvement in traffic flow by increasing capacity for freeway traffic and adding new merge lines to the under-utilised Market Street on-ramp.
The project is part of our Traffic Congestion Management Program, which is delivering a number of initiatives to improve traffic flow across the Perth road network.
