Carnarvon-Mullewa Road

Reconstruction and sealing of the remaining 27 km of unsealed road along the Carnarvon Mullewa Road has been completed.

The project works undertaken between Carnarvon and Gascoyne Junction were carried out on behalf of the Shires of Carnarvon and Upper Gascoyne.

This sealed section of road was opened in an official ceremony held on 20 May 2011. The Honourable Minister for Transport, Troy Buswell, announced the completion of the works highlighting the improved safety and efficiency for road users.  State Member for the North West, Vince Catania; Shire of Carnarvon President, Dudley Maslen; Shire of Upper Gascoyne President, Ross Collins; former Minister for Transport, Eric Charlton; Main Roads Executive Director Regional Services, John Erceg and others involved in the project attended the ceremony.

The completion of this project marked a significant day in the history of the Gascoyne Region. This upgrade will provide an improved standard of road for the most direct east-west link to:

  • the Gascoyne Junction;
  • surrounding pastoral leases;
  • Burringurrah Aboriginal Community; and
  • Murchison and Goldfields regions.

The project has also provided great benefits to the region, with much of the plant used on the project being sourced from local providers.
