Tonkin Highway now extends to Muchea

From Thursday afternoon (23 April), motorists will be able to enjoy a non-stop trip between Morley and Muchea, with travel times substantially reduced to Perth Airport and beyond.

The third and final section of $1.02 billion NorthLink WA was officially opened by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti - providing a free-flowing link, doubling road capacity and improving journey times and productivity.

Tonkin Highway was upgraded between Guildford Road and Reid Highway to a freeway standard and a new 37 kilometre link from Reid Highway to Muchea was constructed.

The highway will provide an efficient alternative freight route, taking about 80 per cent of trucks away from Great Northern Highway.

Cyclists and pedestrians can access a four metre-wide Principal Shared Path, from Railway Parade in Bayswater to Muchea – a distance of around 42 kilometres.

In the northern section, interchanges at Stock Road, Neaves Road and Brand Highway, a deviation of Brand Highway to the north of Muchea, and flyovers over Old Brand Highway, Muchea South Road, railways and Ellenbrook now complete the picture creating a free-flowing environment and a safer, more efficient transport route.

Please remember there are still intrastate travel restrictions in place due to COVID-19. Read more in our news story.

Take care and follow signage, line-marking and traffic management as we continue finishing works.
