Queens Birthday long weekend

With a busy weekend ahead on our road network , road users should consider the following to make your journey a safer and easier one.

Midland line shutdown

From the evening of Thursday 21 September until last service Monday 25 September

All Stations from East Perth to Midland will be closed to facilitate works for the East Perth Upgrade. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time as high volume of replacement buses will be running to cater for the Perth Royal Show.

Visit the Transperth website for more information.

Northbridge Tunnel

Friday 22 September from 8.30pm to 5am

The Northbridge Tunnel will be closed in both directions.

The closure is scheduled to facilitate maintenance works, including but not limited to:

  • Deluge and fire system testing;
  • Cleaning walls, lights and signs;
  • Road surface inspection; and
  • Jet fan inspections.

In the 16 years of the tunnel's operation there has not been a forced closure due to a system malfunction as a result of the rigid and regular two-monthly maintenance regime.

Morley Drive closures

4am Saturday 23 September to 5am Tuesday 26 September (inclusive)

Bridge beams for the western half of the new Tonkin Highway bridge over Morley Drive will be delivered and installed as part of NorthLink WA.

To ensure safe installation, Morley Drive will be closed between Crimea Street to Tonkin Highway.

For more information including a detour map, please visit the NorthLink WA website.

Double demerit points

12am Friday 22 September to Monday 25 September (inclusive)

Motorists should be aware double demerits apply across the state for the following offences:

  • Speeding;
  • Drink or drug driving;
  • Failing to wear a seat belt and/or child restraint;
  • Running a red light; and
  • Illegal use of a mobile phone while driving.

WA Police will be out enforcing double demerits across the long weekend to help stop risk taking behaviour on Western Australian roads and to protect the majority of the community who do the right thing.

More information on double demerit points is available on the Road Safety Commission Road Rules & Penalties page.
