Great Northern Highway repairs underway

Main Roads repair crews have been deployed along the Great Northern Highway (GNH) between Roebuck Plains Roadhouse and Willare in the Kimberley but it will be several days before the Highway can be fully re-opened.

Works are being concentrated at the Logue River Bridge where waters have scoured parts of the bridge abutments and Highway shoulders and sealed pavement.

Main Roads Executive Director of the Central and Northern Regions, John Erceg, said repairs were being carried out where flood levels had receded sufficiently to enable teams in to inspect and carry out works east of Broome.

The Fitzroy Crossing to Halls Creek section of GNH was re-opened this morning but the Highway remains closed between Sandfire and Fitzroy Crossing.
