Multilingual Signage Trial on key WA Tourist routes

We're undertaking a trial of multilingual State Road advisory signs.

The first of its kind in Australia, the signs are aimed at assisting international tourists to safely navigate key ‘tourist routes’ in the Mid-West Gascoyne Region including:

  • Indian Ocean Drive;
  • Minilya-Exmouth Road;
  • Burkett Road; and
  • Northampton Kalbarri Road.

The trial will involve the installation of signage with multilingual text in German, French and simplified Mandarin, which will remind tourists to keep left whilst driving in WA. Directional arrows will also be painted on the pavement at key locations.

The signs will be installed along the full length of these 'tourist routes’ at key points such as the start of the route, intersections, rest areas and parking bays.

Evaluation of the trial will conclude in 2 – 3 years’ time and will involve feedback from key stakeholders combined with crash data trends.
