Proposed upgrades in Kojonup

We are proposing to undertake works to improve the safety of Albany Highway within the Shire of Kojonup. Located just south of Kojonup townsite, works are necessary to improve safety and comply with the Austroads Guidelines.

The proposed works will include widening and sealing, with shoulder widths increased to 2 metres. According to the Road Safety Management Guidelines, increasing the shoulder width from 0.5 metres to 2 metres can help reduce Killed and Seriously Injured numbers by 64 per cent.

To undertake these works roadside vegetation on either side of the alignment will be cleared. In designing the works, we have applied the mitigation hierarchy to limit, as far as possible, clearing impact. In total 5.5 ha of vegetation is required to be cleared, the majority of which is considered to be in a degraded condition.

Public Comment

The proposed works have been determined to be a controlled action, due to potential impacts to threatened species and communities listed under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).

In accordance with section 95A(3) of the EPBC Act, Preliminary Documentation related to the proposal was available for viewing and comment. One submission was received and a response has been prepared.

These documents will be available for viewing until COB Friday 19 October 2018. If you have any queries regarding this project, please contact:
