Main Roads is reminding all tourists who are planning to travel to the Kimberley region that vehicle access beyond Fitzroy Crossing is currently not possible for tourists.

The reminder follows an incident at the weekend when a tourist couple had to be turned back at Fitzroy Crossing after being told they couldn’t cross the Fitzroy River with their car and caravan.

Whilst a ferry passenger service is available across the river for passengers, it doesn’t extend to vehicles at this time. More information can be obtained here: Kimberley Flood Response | Main Roads Western Australia

Main Roads urges tourists and other travellers to stay up to date with road closures by visiting the Main Roads Travel Map or ringing 138 138.

Main Roads understands that the Kimberley region is a popular destination for tourists and wants to ensure that all travellers are well-informed and have a safe and enjoyable journey.

It is essential to be aware of the current road conditions in the Kimberley, especially during the wet season, and travellers are encouraged to plan their trip accordingly.
