What is the IAP?
The Intelligent Access Program (IAP) is a national program developed in partnership with all Australian road agencies that uses satellite tracking and wireless comnunication technology to remotely monitor where, when and how heavy vehicles are being operated on the road network.
The IAP provides heavy vehicles with improved access to the Australian road network in return for monitoring compliance with specific access conditions. This is done using vehicle telematics - a way of monitoring a vehicle using global positioning.
IAP in Western Australia
The IAP is currently not required in Western Australia, however other States require certain vehicles to operate under the IAP.
Operators should check with those jurisdictions to find out whether their vehicles can travel in that State and whether the IAP is required.
Further details about the IAP nationally are available on the TCA website (www.tca.gov.au).
