RAV ACCESS TO
THE KWINANA FREEWAY SOUTHERN EXTENSION
AND THE FORREST HIGHWAY

The Kwinana Freeway Southern Extension and the Forrest Highway (which have also been referred to as the New Perth Bunbury Highway) will open to traffic on Sunday 20 September 2009.

This Update is provided to outline Restricted Access Vehicle (RAV) access to these new roads.

Opening of the Freeway Extension and the new Forrest Highway will provide enhanced access for RAVs.  Features of the new roads include a controlled access dual carriageway from Perth to the Old Coast Road (Lake Clifton), with intersections and interchanges designed for all types of 27.5 m Class 2/3 long vehicles.

Once open, RAV Class 2/3 vehicles up to a maximum length of 27.5 m will be permitted to travel south of Thomas Road through the newly extended section of Kwinana Freeway and Forrest Highway (the section of the New Perth Bunbury Highway that runs between Pinjarra Road and Old Coast Road near Lake Clifton).  This will enable their use on the entire length of the extended Kwinana Freeway and Forrest Highway.

The prohibition of oversize loads travelling on any Freeway remains. Oversize loads will be permitted to use Forrest Highway, and will be able to access the Forrest Highway via Pinjarra Road.

Access from the South Western Highway to the new Highway is via Greenlands Road for Class 2/3 vehicles up to 27.5 m in length.

The Kwinana Freeway Southern Extension and the Forrest Highway will be added to the permit addendum system.  The addendum for the vehicle type you wish to operate should be downloaded from the Main Roads website at www.mainroads.wa.gov.au and carried in the vehicle.  This will be available from 15 September 2009.
