ROAD TRAIN ASSEMBLY AREA – NORTHAM

In recent years, there have been a number of incidents where trailers have detached from road trains when

departing the Road Train Assembly Area in Northam.

The series of detached trailer events has caused significant pavement damage and risk to both highway and local

traffic.  These events have also caused traffic delays, unnecessary detours, and interference with through

traffic using the road network.

The Northam Police are also concerned with these incidents.

Main Roads has reviewed the risk involved in these incidents and advise that future occurrences will be

investigated under the provisions of the Road Traffic Act and Regulations, leading to the possibility of

prosecution.

Main Roads urges all operators using the Northam Road Train Assembly Area to complete load and trailer security

checks prior to departure from the Assembly Area.

Operators are reminded of the coupling requirements outlined in HVO Update 22-2008, dated 12 May.
