GREAT NORTHERN HIGHWAY PROJECT –
MUCHEA TO WUBIN
Main Roads Western Australia is pleased to announce that Access Alliance, a partnership between Main Roads, Brierty Limited and Maunsell Aecom, will design and construct roadworks on Great Northern Highway between Muchea and Wubin over the next two years.
The Project involves the reconstruction, widening and selective realignment of significant lengths of the Highway. New passing lanes, intersection upgrades and roadside amenity improvements such as parking bays and rest areas are included in the planned works. The proposed improvements will upgrade the Highway to a 9 m seal on an 11 m formation.
There will be a number of crews working at various points between Muchea and Bindi Bindi at any given time during the next two years. The construction team will be working in a confined area to a tight schedule.
A Traffic Management Plan will be in place and, where possible, side roads will be constructed around work sites to minimise the impact on traffic. Many sections will be constructed under traffic. At points, the Highway will be reduced to a single lane with reduced speed limits and traffic flowing intermittently in each direction.
Although every effort will be made to minimise delays throughout the works, drivers should allow for additional travel time, observe the reduced speed limits, and follow instructions from traffic controllers.
Clearing activities for roadworks on the Highway will commence on Monday 7 January 2008. Delays are expected on a two kilometre section of road in the vicinity of the Chittering Roadhouse when trees are felled and branches removed from the roadway.
Further information may be obtained from the Main Roads web site at www.mainroads.wa.gov.au or by contacting the Main Roads Wheatbelt North Regional Office on (08) 9622 4777.
