CONCESSIONAL MASS LIMITS
NATIONAL HEAVY VEHICLE ACCREDITATION SCHEME

Further information is provided in relation to HVO Update 37-2006 issued today:

An article in the West Australian Newspaper of Saturday 24 June 2006 titled "Trucks permitted to increase loads" was based on a recent media release by the National Transport Commission (NTC) in relation to the proposed introduction of Concessional Mass Limits (CML).  This relates to operators who are members of the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS).  In addition, CML is only offered to transport operators who have a system in place to maintain suspension on all vehicles.

As the NTC states in its media release, Western Australia runs mandatory WA Heavy Vehicle Accreditation and already offers a range of mass concession schemes: the Certified Weighbridge Mass Management Scheme, the Bulk Cargo Concessional Load Scheme, and the Import/Export Containerised Cargo Scheme, as well as specific concessions for livestock carriers.

These schemes offer more generous mass allowances than those being introduced under CML.  As such, Industry is advised that Concessional Mass Limits will not be adopted in Western Australia.

HVO Update 37-2006 is rescinded.
