Oversize Divisible Products

Transport of oversize loads of baled hay and straw, baled wool and concrete pipes

Main Roads has released new requirements for Restricted Access Vehicles carrying Oversize Divisible Products.  This enables the cartage of oversize loads of certain divisible products, specifically baled hay, straw and wool, and concrete pipes subject to conditions.

The standard operating conditions are clearly outlined in a booklet "Class 3 Restricted Access Vehicles - Oversize Divisible Products - Operating Conditions", which will form part of each permit and must be carried by the operator.

These conditions replace existing permit approvals which covered the transport of overwidth loads of baled wool and concrete pipes, overwidth baled hay/straw, overheight baled hay/straw, and the trial of carting hay overwidth and overheight.

These new conditions simplify permitting arrangements, with a number of operational restrictions being removed and enhanced access to the road network being granted.

Production of these new operating conditions was undertaken in close consultation with industry representatives to produce a flexible operating regime without reducing safety.

Operators with the earlier permit endorsements, as shown below, will have them automatically replaced with the new operating conditions upon renewal of their permit:

  • over height hay/straw (Baled Hay Over Height);
  • over width hay/straw, baled wool or concrete pipes (Transport of Divisible Products Over Width).

Operators that held permits for the hay carting trial have already had their permits replaced with the new operating conditions and permits where appropriate.
