6500 kg STEER AXLE LOADING
Vehicles registered on or after 1 January 2008 that comply with the standards listed below, may apply to the Department for Planning and Infrastructure (DPI) Licensing Services for an amendment to the vehicle licence, allowing an additional 500 kgs on single steer axles.
1. Vehicle must be fitted with an approved Front Underrun Protection System (FUPS).
2. Vehicle must comply with Euro/Tec 4 Emission standards.
3. Cabin strength standards must comply with UN ECE Regulation 29.
4. Vehicles must have suitably rated axles and tyres.
Amended vehicle licences may show different mass limits to Main Roads permits. To avoid confusion at Weighing Facilities, a copy of this HVO Update should be produced along with a copy of the amended vehicle licence. Where the vehicle licence allows for a GVM of 23 tonnes and a GCM of 43 tonnes, Main Roads approves the 6500 kg steer axle limit contrary to the Main Roads permit limit of 6000 kgs.
There is no additional mass available for vehicles fitted with twin steer axle groups.
CONDITIONS
Vehicle drivers must carry and produce a copy of the valid DPI Licence for the vehicle being driven, showing a GVM of 23 tonnes and a GCM of 43 tonnes.
