We view management of the State’s road network as critical to the economic and social wellbeing of all road users and work hard to integrate community perceptions into our strategic planning and day-to-day operations.
To make sure we respond quickly and appropriately to community needs we conduct an annual Community Perceptions Survey. The survey gives us important, up-to-date, customer-focussed information about our performance in the construction, maintenance and management of the state’s road network.
We were very pleased to find 97 per cent of 2009 survey respondents rated Main Roads overall performance as “okay” or better. However, we recognise that our performance must stand up to continuing changes to WA’s population size, dispersion and road user needs. Issues which remain a priority for Main Roads to address into 2009/2010 are:
Background About our Annual Community Perceptions Survey
A Community Perceptions Survey has been carried out for each of the past fifteen years in order to gauge how Western Australia's road users view Main Roads' performance in the construction, maintenance and management of the State's road network.
The overall objective of the research is to provide management with an insight into community attitudes and opinions and to allow for the ongoing identification of community perceptions of issues or priorities. This information is used by management to respond to community perceptions through strategic planning and day to day operational management.
Australian Market Intelligence, who also conducted the 2004 and 2005 surveys, was recommissioned in May 2006 to undertake the surveys for 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
Information is gathered through the use of telephone surveys. In total 1150 surveys are conducted - 250 in the Perth metropolitan area and 900 in regional areas (100 in each region). The collected data is weighted to reflect the actual population distribution based on ABS statistics.
