Heavy Vehicle Mass Management Scheme Discussion Paper

A discussion paper on the development of a mass management scheme for the road freight industry in WA has been released for comment by Transport Minister Simon O’Brien. View the document by visiting the Heavy Vehicle Mass Management page.

The closing date for comment has been extended to Thursday, 1 April 2010.

Western Australia has one of the largest geographically spread road networks in the world covering some 2.5 million square kilometres, with a matching diversity in climate and road user needs.

Main Roads is Western Australia's State road authority, managing a network of some 17,800 km of National Highways and State Roads with a value of more than $27 billion.

What is Heavy Vehicle Operations involvement in heavy vehicle related issues?

Heavy Vehicle Operations (HVO) is responsible for managing heavy vehicle access to the State's road network.

What is the Department of Transport's involvement in heavy vehicle related issues?

The Department of Transport (DoT) role in heavy vehicle related matters is two-fold. Firstly, DoT administers, amongst others, all heavy vehicle legislation and secondly it manages all areas of vehicle and driver licensing.
