Plan
Major works will be suspended for the winter period.
Main Roads’ contractor, Downer EDI Works, has achieved excellent progress on the construction of new lanes between Joondalup Drive and Ashley Road (Portion A), with traffic having moved across on 12 May.
The contractor has also completed, ahead of schedule, approximately 20 per cent of works on the section between Ashley Road and Wallawa Street (Portion B).
Permanent traffic management will be in place over the winter period to assist traffic and pedestrians in the area.
Major works are scheduled to resume on the project in October and extend through to April next year.
In the meantime, minor works will be conducted on footpaths and retaining walls.
The contractor has contacted all homeowners within 60m of the Portion B works and completed building surveys in preparation for commencement of compaction for road construction. This provides benchmark property condition reports on homes for use in the unlikely event of damage through vibrations.
During winter, it is not anticipated that there will be any dust related issues from the site. When returning in spring, some dust is inevitable during roadworks, however watering down of the site will be carried out to limit the problem. Low impact compaction equipment will also be used during construction to reduce vibrations.

Wanneroo Road will be duplicated to create a dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction separated by a median of up to 6 m wide.
This involves construction of 2 new lanes on the western side of Wanneroo Road and an upgrade to the existing lanes including resurfacing, minor widening and realignments to improve safety.
Other features include:
- modern street lighting;
- shared paths for pedestrians and cyclists on both sides of Wanneroo Road;
- the addition of shoulders to Wanneroo Road to improve safety for commuting cyclists;
- kerbing along the full length of the upgrade; and
- 4 new off-road bus bays.
The work will improve transport efficiency and safety.
A planned upgrade to the Ashley Road intersection will not be included in Portion A. Those works will be undertaken by Downer EDI Works commencing in September 2009.

Work duration and hours
Work will be permitted for up to 60 hours per week. It will generally be between 7.00 am and 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday and 7.00 am to 1.00 pm Saturday.
Traffic flow and driveway access
The contractor is required to maintain 2-way traffic flow on Wanneroo Road throughout the project. This will be achieved by constructing the new lanes on the western side, then shifting the traffic across before commencing work on the existing lanes.
Reduced speed limits may apply at times during the project and there may be occasional minor delays. Motorists are asked to:
The contractor is also required to maintain driveway access to all properties on Wanneroo Road. However, there may be occasional, brief disruptions.

Previous consultation
We appreciate the input provided by the community at a display and information day held at the City of Wanneroo municipal complex on 8 March 2008.
Approximately 60 people attended. Views relevant to the project have been carefully considered in the design stage of the project.
