January 2012
The Kwinana Freeway Resurfacing Works involves the resurfacing of various sections of the Kwinana Freeway from the Glen Iris rail tunnel to Safety Bay Road and the Ennis Avenue Ramps. It also includes the associated ramps and overpasses.
The works are part of the ongoing road maintenance and will create a better riding surface that generates less noise and spray and improves overall safety for road users.
Timing and project staging
The project will be carried out over two summer seasons. Work commences on 8 January 2012, with completion of season one scheduled for April 2012.
The second construction period will run from November 2012 until March 2013.

- 2 kms of dual carriageway resurfacing between Orton Road and the Mortimer Road exit
- 1.3 kms of dual carriageway resurfacing between the Mortimer Road on ramp and Millar Road
- 2 kms of dual carriageway resurfacing between Millar Road Mundijong Road
- 3 kms of dual carriageway resurfacing between Mundijong Road to Safety Bay Road
Northbound
Work will begin at Safety Bay Road, heading north.
The resurfacing works for the northbound carriageways is more extensive and covers a total of 18 kms between Safety Bay Road and Beeliar Drive.

Traffic Management
Works will be carried out over night (8.00 pm to 5.00 am) to minimise disruption to road users.
The Freeway will not be closed, apart from at individual ramps and cross roads, where diversions will need to be put in place. Advance notification will be provided to road users and local communities prior to these diversions being set up.
During the night works there will be restricted access to the Freeway, and speed limits will be reduced in line with safety regulations to ensure a safe environment is maintained for both construction workers and road users. These will be 60 km/h on carriageways and 40 km/h on ramps.
During the day when works are not occurring, speed restrictions will be lifted, with the exception of where the road surface has been profiled, but not as yet sealed. A speed restriction of 80 km/h will be in place through these sections.
