Main Roads and OSH
We seek to demonstrate and enact the policy statement that 'Safety and Health are essential for the wellbeing of our people and the success and sustainability of our business'. We are committed to Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and are a strong believer in the knowledge sharing of industry wide best practices.
Our OSH Management System, addresses our relevant legal requirements in Western Australia including the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 and the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996. It is Third Party certified to AS/NZS 4801:2001.
Safety performance reports are received from all our construction projects and maintenance contractors and are compiled and analysed to ensure the continuous improvement of positive OSH performance and regulatory compliance.
Recent Highlights
Inspirational Safety Conference
Following on from the success of the 2009 Main Roads Inspirational Safety Conference and positive industry feedback indicating support for such events to continue, we will be arranging a second event to be held in 2011. Based on the feedback received, at this stage we expect the conference to focus heavily on issues relating to managing the risks associated with exposure to traffic and looking at solutions beyond just engineering and regulatory controls.
Infrastructure Delivery Directorate achieve Platinum
Our Infrastructure Delivery Directorate has been awarded a Platinum Level certification under the WorkSafe Plan. The award was presented at the 2010 Safe Work Australia Week dinner hosted by WorkSafe.
Main Roads Strategic Workshop
During November, we undertook a Strategic OSH workshop to help set our course for the next five years. Representatives from our new ISAs were also included in the workshops. The change in our corporate risk profile with the move to these arrangements was deemed one of the more important areas of focus for us in moving forward, as was a desire to continue the push to a leadership role in coordinating industry knowledge regarding OSH and risk management.
Main Roads and Contractors Safety Statistics
We receive OSH statistics both internally and from all our Contractor's (Construction and Maintenance contracts) from which we produce relevant OSH reports. These reports are temporarily unavailable.
For further information please call 138 138 and ask for a member of the OSH branch.
