Roadside Advertising and collection of firewood

Roadside Signs

Main Roads Western Australia and Local Governments have taken a tough stance on illegal roadside signs. The proliferation of signs on Highways and Main Roads has become a major safety issue. No person or business can put up a sign along any Highway or Main Road without approval of Main Roads Western Australia or the Local Authority.

Illegal signs are liable to attract an infringement.

Anyone who wants to erect a sign should apply in the first instance to the relevant Local Authority.

Collection of Firewood

The collection of firewood from Main Roads' road reserves is not permitted.   Firewood is defined as any vegetation, dead or alive.  Penalties under the "Environmental Protection (Clearing of Native Vegetation) Regulations 2004" are a maximum fine of $250,000 or up to 3 years jail for individuals.
