Expanding industries, such as the Ord Farm Project and Kimberley Diamonds are investing large amounts of money and are dependent upon reliable transport corridors to freight their produce and equipment to and from their locations. Roads are the only mode of transport within the Region. The Great Northern Highway in the Kimberley Region is the only sealed road linking the Region with the Northern Territory and other regional centres of Western Australia. Hence it is a strategically important land transport corridor from a defence, freight and tourism point of view.
