Project Overview

In recognition of the severity of the flooding problem in Carnarvon, the Department of Water and Shire of Carnarvon commissioned the Carnarvon Floodplain Management Study, which was completed in 2002.

From these investigations, a number of flood mitigation options were recommended, including both structural and non-structural measures.

Professional services company, GHD, was engaged to review the findings of the Carnarvon Floodplain Management study and progress the recommendations, including the impacts of the recent flooding record of the Gascoyne River in December 2010, to the final design and documentation stage.

Current Actions

The Department of Water and Shire of Carnarvon are yet to identify further construction funding required for the project.

Main Roads WA has begun developing a Risk Management Plan with key stakeholders in preparation for the construction of the levee system.
